Port Hope Conservation Area parking is closed due to erosion. The CA is open. Please park safely along the side of the road, or at the Ganaraska Fishway.
Please note that ahead of the peak salmon migration, and in effort to continue to keep our watershed safe, the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority will be closing Ganaraska Millennium, Port Hope, Sylvan Glen and Thurne Parks Conservation Areas. These conservation areas will be closed August 28th through to October 1st.

Port Hope Conservation Area

This conservation area is 89.94 acres (36.4 ha) in size, and is tucked beside the Ganaraska River. This land was acquired on February 3, 1964. The woodland trails along the Ganaraska River are rich in plant life and great for a picturesque stroll or nature photography. Not only a great place to relax and enjoy a picnic by the water, but also a popular spot for fishing. The Ganaraska Fishway (fish sanctuary) is on the south side of Highway 401.

Unmaintained trails. Use at own risk. Parking lot closed - park safely off to side of road.

While visiting, please respect neighbouring private properties and stay on GRCA Conservation Area land.

How to get to Port Hope CA:

From East:

  • 401 to traffic light turn left onto County Road 28 (Ontario Street)
  • At the first light turn right onto Jocelyn Street
  • Go over Ganaraska river and turn right onto Cavan Street
  • Continue under the 401 and enter Port Hope Conservation Area to the right

From West:

  • ff the 401 turn right at the light, onto Jocelyn Street
  • Go straight through next light, continue over the Ganaraska River and turn right onto Cavan Street
  • Continue under the 401 and enter Port Hope Conservation Area to the right
