Be Active, Be Healthy

September brings along warm, breezy days and cool, clear nights; perfect weather for getting outdoors, being active, and going to one of the many green spaces within our community.

The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority encourages you to visit one of 9 local conservation areas or the Ganaraska Forest, and to get out and get active while appreciating nature and enjoying outdoor recreation. Tie up your laces and go on a hike, strap on your helmet and take a bike ride, or simply break out your camera and get the perfect shot of what a beautiful fall day is to you.  

Physical activity is a key component to everyone’s health and well-being. In 2013, just over 2 in 10 adults and 1 in 10 children and youth met the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines. Physical activity can range from a leisurely walk, to an afternoon of canoeing. With over 1,900 km of trails throughout 300 publicly accessible conservation areas across Ontario, they offer the space and facilities for these activities and many, many more.

Consider stepping into nature at one of Ontario’s largest contiguous forests, the Ganaraska Forest. The 11,000 acre forest offers hundreds of kilometres of trails, providing year round activities for people of all ages. Whether you enjoy jogging, geocaching, horseback riding, or just relaxing under an umbrella of trees, there’s something for everyone. Start your visit off at the Ganaraska Forest Centre, located on Cold Springs Camp Road just north of Port Hope, where you’ll find the trailhead to the central, passive-use only section of the Ganaraska Forest.
