On a rainy Saturday in late-May, the Kinsmen Club of Port Hope held a native plant sale in support of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA).
Urban and rural residents stopped by the GRCA picnic shelter on County Road 28 in Port Hope to purchase a variety of flowers, trees and shrubs that are native to Ontario. All in all, the event raised over $1,000.00 for GRCA programs and services.
“Despite the weather, the Kinsmen Club of Port Hope had a fun day running this event with the GRCA. Every time we looked up, there were more people arriving! We’re all looking forward to doing it again next year,” states Jeff Lees, Kinsmen Club of Port Hope/Chair, GRCA Board of Directors.
“The generous donation from the Kinsmen Club of Port Hope will help the Conservation Authority carry out important programs and projects that benefit the community and the environment,” said Linda Laliberte, CAO/Secretary-Treasurer of the GRCA. “We are grateful for the Kinsmen’s continued support.”
The GRCA also held a rain barrel sale in partnership with RainBarrel.ca; coordinating the barrel pick-up with the Native Plant Sale. Over 100 barrels were pre-ordered through this fundraiser.
