Port Hope - The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority is now able to offer more tree planting options thanks to the help of the Port Hope High School Manufacturing Technology class. In 2011 the class rebuilt the Authority’s Fesco Tree Planter. This tree planter is used to mechanically plant tree seedlings behind a tractor. In 2012 the class manufactured a sled for the tree planter to sit on for easy transportation. With a brand new coat of paint and plenty of grease, this tree planter will be used for years to come in effort to increase tree cover throughout local watersheds.
Landowner can rent the tree planter so that trees can be easily planted in larger fields. For more information on how you can participate in the 2012 tree seedling and planting program, contact Pam Lancaster, Stewardship Technician at 905-885-8173 x 247 or plancaster@grca.on.ca.
