GRCA Issues Flood Advisory
GRCA Issues Flood Advisory - click to enlarge

The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority advises that a significant weather system will be passing through Southern Ontario beginning late this afternoon and extending into Wednesday November 30th. Widespread precipitation accumulations of between 40 and 60mm are predicted by the end of Tuesday with a further 10-20mm of rain expected Wednesday.

As a result of rainfall over the last few days, ground conditions in much of the watershed are saturated. The predicted rainfall is expected to result in significantly higher stream flows over the next few days and may cause flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.  Widespread flooding is not anticipated at the present time.

Under these circumstances, water in streams and ditches will be flowing high and fast creating dangerous conditions.  The GRCA is advising watershed residents to use extreme caution around bodies of water and stay well back of stream banks and flowing water.  Please alert any children in your care of these dangers.

The Conservation Authority will continue to monitor local conditions and provide updates as conditions warrant.  This Flood Advisory will be in effect through Wednesday Nov. 30th.   For further information, please contact the following GRCA staff at 905-885-8173 between 8:30am and 4:30pm or the Flood Duty Officer at 905-373-2038 or 289-251-2094 (after normal business hours).  If you notice a potential flooding hazard please contact the Flood Duty Officer.
