Have you been noticing animal tracks in the snow, and are you wondering how to tell the difference between fox, coyote and domestic dog tracks? Then join Chris Gilmour of Earth Mentorship Programs for a day of wilderness awareness activities.
On Sunday, February 14th, the Caring for the Moraine Project and the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority will host a FREE “Tracking and Wilderness Awareness” workshop for landowners from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Ganaraska Forest Centre in Northumberland County.
Participants will meet at the new Ganaraska Forest Centre for a slide show highlighting the basics of wildlife signs, followed by lunch and an expedition into the forest, searching for evidence of some of the most common animals on the Oak Ridges Moraine.
“This workshop will venture past simple identification, and examine the story animals leave behind through gait interpretation and the art of questioning,” states Chris Gilmour of Earth Mentorship Programs.
Participants are required to bring a lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.
From County Road 9, between the towns of Kirby and Elizabethville, go north on Cold Springs Camp Road and proceed 4 km to the Ganaraska Forest Centre.
