The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the new Ganaraska Forest Centre in September. The GRCA welcomes the public to tour the Centre and enjoy other fun activities from 12-3 pm on Saturday, October 3rd during the annual Ganaraska Forest Open House and Members’ Day, in partnership with Cameco Corporation. The Building for Change fundraising goals in support of the new centre have yet to be reached and the authority is extending an invitation to the community to become involved with the campaign by contributing to it.
Concrete brick pavers (8”x8”) are being sold for $100 in support of the redevelopment of the outdoor education centre. Individual pavers will be engraved with your name, or supportive message, and will be incorporated into the landscape of the new outdoor education facility. A walkway will be outlined with the pavers that will lead visitors to the main entrance of the Centre, showcasing your support of the campaign.
Building for Change raffle tickets are still available for your chance to win a 2009 Honda ATV donated by Honda Canada, a TREK Mountain Bike donated by Wild Rock Outfitters of Peterborough, and a Cross-Country Ski Package donated by Sommerville’s Sporting Goods of Cobourg. Tickets are one for $5 or three for $10, and are available at many locations including the GRCA, the Ganaraska Forest Centre, Ganaraska Financial, Port Hope District Chamber of Commerce, and Sommerville’s Sporting Goods. The draw will take place on October 3rd, 2009 at the Ganaraska Forest Open House & Members’ Day.
Small donations add up and pledge cards are available for you to submit your gift which will provide you with a charitable tax receipt and acknowledgment on the Forest Centre’s donor piece. “The community has been very supportive of our campaign and we are so close to our goal; every little bit counts”, states Paul Quantrill, Chair of the Building for Change fundraising committee.
The Ganaraska Forest Centre is a learning facility, located in the magnificent Ganaraska Forest, which thousands of students and guests of all ages visit to experience the great outdoors and gain education about environmental conservation. The redeveloped centre is a multi-use facility for outdoor education programs, community and corporate group rentals and special events, along with being the new home of the Oak Ridges Moraine Information Centre.
