The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority is pleased to announce that the Wilmot Creek watershed plan is being finalized in 2009. A watershed is an area of land that drains water to a particular point, which in this case is Lake Ontario.
“The purpose of this initiative is to develop a plan that will create a framework to guide the protection, management, rehabilitation, and enhancement of the Wilmot Creek watershed and its resources,” states Pam Lancaster, Stewardship Technician at the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority
This process is also required under the provincial Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. The topics covered in the watershed plan include groundwater quantity and quality, surface water quantity and quality, aquatic habitat and species, terrestrial natural heritage, public health and wellbeing, and cultural heritage.
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority is inviting participants into the planning process through a public open house on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Orono Town Hall, 5315 Main Street in Orono from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Formal presentations will begin at 7:00 p.m.
