Outdoor Education

Since 1978, the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) has been providing unique outdoor education experiences to elementary and secondary students in the heart of the Ganaraska Forest. Students take back wonderful memories from their Ganaraska adventure and a greater interest in and sense of responsibility for our natural environment.

A visit to the Ganaraska Forest Centre will be an extremely rich experience for the students, visiting teachers and parent volunteers. Five, Three or Two-day programs are available as well as single day use educational programs. At the GRCA, we follow the current Provincial curriculum requirements. Our philosophy involves a hands-on approach to education in a natural environment. Our classroom does not have four walls - it is the great outdoors!

No matter what program you choose for your students, we teach innovative environmental programs based on the Provincial curriculum expectation. Students will learn key concepts through hands-on experiments, games and activities. Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Geography are just some of the subjects covered in our vast program list. We offer programming for all seasons including cross-country skiing, trappers & traders and snowshoeing in the winter, pond study and group dynamics in the spring as well as orienteering, forest ecosystem studies and night hikes in the fall. Our programming provides an important addition to your school's curriculum.
