Scheduling around the 2017 Victoria Day long weekend and the “best time to plant” rule of thumb, the Kinsmen Club of Port Hope held the 2nd Annual Native Plant Sale in support of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) on a beautiful spring day during the last weekend in May.
234 native plants will now be growing healthy in urban and rural gardens across the watershed. All in all, 214 flowers, 14 shrubs and 6 trees were sold, raising over $700.00 for GRCA programs and services.
“Great success!” exclaims Jeff Lees, Kinsmen Club of Port Hope/GRCA Full Authority Board Member. “The Kinsmen look forward to next year.”
“The continuous support from the Kinsmen Club of Port Hope will assist the GRCA in providing the many educational programs and services offered across the watershed,” said Linda Laliberte, CAO/Secretary-Treasurer of the GRCA. “The GRCA thanks the Kinsmen for their generous donation.”
Planting native species is more important now than ever. You too can help reduce the number of invasive species that enter the community. To see a local example of how beautiful a native plant garden can be, visit the Town of Cobourg Water Conservation Garden at the corner of Ewart and Division Streets in Cobourg.
Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Native Plant Sale planned for May 26th 2018.
